This course offers non-native and native English teachers the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the language system of English, including three core areas: Phonetics and Phonology, Morphosyntax or Grammar, and Pragmatics. With this, we aim to help English teachers acquire a strong knowledge of the way English works and as a consequence, promote effective English learning in their own classrooms.
After taking this course, participants will be able to:
- Understand the key features and academic terminology used in the field of Phonetics and Phonology, Morphosyntax, and Pragmatics of English.
- Apply the acquiered knowledge of these three areas into their teaching of English as a Foreign Language.
This course is 144 hrs long. The modules included in this course are:
Module 1. Phonetics and Phonology (48 hours)
Module 2. Morphosyntax (48 hours
Module 3. Pragmatics (48 hours)
Individual and collaborative tasks, as well as discussion forums have been included in every module. However, every module has its own grading criteria. In order to obtain the diploma for this course, you will have to credit each module with a grade above 8.
This course is appropriate for teachers with any level of experience, including teachers in training. In order to enroll in this course, you will have to meet the following requirements:
- Be 21 years old
- High school diploma, minimum
- B2 level of English or higher (International Certificate needed)
- If non-native Spanish Speaker, CEPE’s certificate is required (700 points in EPLE exam)
- Official documents showing experience in the field of English as a Foreign Language Teaching
- 10 hours available for on line study
- Personal computer and internet access
